At our core is a 500,000-strong global network of product managers, designers, technologists, and CPOs. They engage through digital forums, in-person events, and exclusive content—uncovering best practices, emerging tools, and the people driving real change.

While great product creation is timeless, over the past two decades a constellation of technology and social trends has formed that has dramatically changed both the nature of the product lifecycle, and the importance of product professionals in corporate life.

The chief technology changes are digital, chiefly including cloud-based apps, mobility, online commerce, products that engage with customers and companies after sales, social media in which consumers are publishers, and sophisticated analytics frameworks and AI computation. Inspiring products are created and perfected faster and better than ever, from more places and in more categories.

As a result, the cost of product design and iteration has fallen sharply. Product creation is exploding. It is easier to discern customer needs, and track the growth of hit products. The consumer has moved from an “end user” to a vital part of an ongoing process of creating products that inspire, in which design changes and new attributes can be created and often inserted into existing processes. In both online shopping and product use, customer engagement is seen in real ways, not through the concatenations of slow market research. Products speak to people like never before, and people speak back. COVID, which increased online commerce and communications, supercharged this trend.

There are many implications from this, but the crucial one is that the disciplines of Product Leadership and Product Management play an extraordinary role in the life of the company, the chief means not only to revenue and brand experience, but stewardship of vital financial and market data, and a real-time pipeline to corporate functions from Marketing, to Engineering, to Finance. A great CPO holds the future of their organization.

We are a 501(c)(3) organization, with no intention to build a profit-making business. To do so would be to compromise our vision of investing in products with greater inspiration, energy, and meaning, and our mission of fostering the live and vitality of our network of product professionals. We are here to serve them, not compete with them.

The size of our Advisory Council, over 300 product leaders and CPOs, reflects both the enthusiasm we’ve built as a nonprofit, and the opportunities that companies see in working to promote the discipline of product excellence. Our publishing efforts, or educational tools and services, and our corporate partnerships, are all in service of improving the learning and careers of both our members and emerging product leaders.

There is nothing like our network, or nonprofit mission, or our vision of what’s happening in the world of products, or the prospects for building more products that count.
