Show Notes:
- Great PMs are defined by their ability to drive momentum, not just by shipping features.
- Clarity is crucial: Align teams by communicating a clear, compelling vision persistently.
- Trust is built through honesty, transparency, and willingness to share both successes and challenges.
- Storytelling is more powerful than specs – stories inspire, specs describe.
- Simplify complex ideas: Be able to explain your product in one breath.
- Great PMs lead with presence, not volume – be calm and clear during tense moments.
- Learn to say “no” to protect your team’s focus and deliver meaningful impact.
- PM careers are non-linear and involve solving increasingly complex problems over time.
- Build trust by being the owner of decisions and driving forward momentum.
- Combine technical intuition with strategic storytelling.
- Persistent communication reinforces team belief and alignment.
- Great PMs amplify others and pass the spotlight to quiet contributors.
- Complexity is a drag coefficient – simplify language, flow, and purpose.
- Trust is measured through conversations and responsibilities given, not on dashboards.
- Have a clear point of view and be willing to make decisive recommendations.
- Balance vision with executable steps – create a clear path from current reality to future goals.
- Energy comes from believing in the impact of your work, not just completing tasks.
- PM’s job is to shape people, teams, and culture, not just ship products.
- Small, consistent improvements can unlock significant transformation over time.
- Always stay curious, grounded, and committed to continuous learning.
About the speaker
I am currently a Senior Director of Product Management at Mozilla, where I am exploring ways to responsibly use AI to democratize the web. At Meta, I helped people connect with their friends, communities, and content by powering the discovery engine across messaging platforms. At GoDaddy, I helped convert people’s passions into professions. My interests span various areas, including discovery (relevance, personalization, and context-aware), monetization (advertising, merchandising, and purchase paths), and developing people (hiring, mentoring, and career management). When not working, I enjoy building Star Wars Lego sets and exploring new shows on my various streaming services (yes, I subscribe to too many!). As a proud father of two amazing kids and an SF Bay Area resident with my wife, I am always looking for new and exciting opportunities to impact our communities and society.
