8Ninths CEO on Virtual Products (Part 3)

When looking at virtual products, the visual aspects of the experience usually come to mind first. However, there’s so much to be built on within the ecosystem of virtual or augmented reality. This is represented by the AR Cloud, which is setting the stage of rapid growth in virtual technology across computing platforms.

For example, Google recently announced a new API that brings its 3D content into a unity application. This is a massive innovation, as you can bring every square inch of planet earth into a common space. Furthermore, you can now display relevant content and information within this virtual environment. As a result, the owner of this information index is going to hold an interesting position of power.

Over time, static experiences are going to become less desirable with the benefits provided by AR technology. For example, interactive AR experiences are replacing 2D websites and traditional media content. This is where everyday activities are going to become increasingly more sci-fi and futuristic.

Within the next 10 to 20 years, this technology is going to produce a whole new generation of robotics. In addition, we will see “physicalized avatars” that can perform activities on your behalf in a virtual environment. In other words, everyone is going to have superpowers in a few years!

Looking at the near-term, our daily experiences are going to start blending virtual overlays with traditional screens to display content. For example, you can walk in someone else’s shoes who is halfway around the world. Alternatively, imagine working on a plane and having your entire workspace viewable within the space of your seat.

In summary, the world of virtual products continues to expand – providing richer experiences and greater access to content for people around the world.
