The ABCs of Building a Data Culture

As product managers and builders, the importance of data, both qualitative and quantitative, is never lost upon us. Simultaneously, the challenge we often face is that our products aren’t built in a vacuum. Making data-driven decisions often means getting input and commitment from all levels of an organization to actually make data-driven decisions.
How do you transform organizations to think data-first, and build a data culture, especially in creative-heavy fields like media? In this talk, Prerna will focus on her experience leading product teams at various media companies, the importance of establishing data literacy organizationally, and how to use design thinking and user research techniques to empower organizations to embrace this culture.

About the Speaker:

Prerna Singh is a Director of Product at Quartz, where she leads a product innovation team for Quartz Creative, the in-house creative services team dedicated to helping brands effectively storytell. Prior to Quartz, she was a Senior Product Manager for Data Science and Analytics at Mashable, where she led a team of data scientists, engineers, and designers to build internal data tools to empower data-driven decision making across the company. Prerna originally started her career as a consultant in the IBM Interactive Experience group, guiding Fortune 500 companies like Google and Nestle to understand their users better and build products with delightful user experiences. Prerna graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Business Administration and Human-Computer Interaction, and a minor in Mechanical Engineering. She is Founder & CEO of a non-profit, The Pledging Tree Foundation and sits on the President’s Advisory Board at Carnegie Mellon University. She also co-leads the Women in Product community in New York City, and serves as a product mentor to rising startups at NYC media accelerator, Matter.
