Stitch Fix Product VP on Product Roadmap (Part 2)
You are probably asking yourself, what is the best tool for me to use in creating a product roadmap for my team? There are hundreds of products that you can choose. However, it’s important to remember that your team is the most valuable tool that you can use to help drive your business forward.
If you take yourself out of the equation, then you’re not doing yourself or your team justice when it comes to making positive change.
We hear the word “vision” a lot. This sparks debate as far as what is your vision statement vs. your mission statement and etc. In the end, this isn’t all that important. The biggest piece of advice that I have is to start your roadmap with a destination in mind.
Your roadmap needs to tell you where you are trying to go by when. This will look different depending on your seniority level or the size of your organization. For example, you may want to deliver a certain set of features by the end of the year or launch a new product line within three years.
You and your core team should buy into what you are trying to do. You should be at a level where you can “feel it” and “taste it.” Bringing color and definition to your work that keeps your team working together in the right direction.
